If you are someone who is generally very politically active, you might sometimes find that it can get to you a little bit, and that you are keen to try and make sure you are looking after yourself as well. The fact is that this is an important thing to do, and it will generally mean that you are going to have a much better chance of actually living well, and from there you will be able to make so much more of the political situation anyway.
But it begins with self-care, and this is something that you should definitely make sure you are focused on as best as you can be. With that in mind, here are some of the things you might want to consider doing when it comes to trying to take better care of yourself during these tricky and troubled times.
Lowering The Bar
When stress is high, it is easy to start to expect more from yourself, and that might even feel natural. But it is unlikely to be the best or kindest approach, and you might find it is actually better to be able to work a little with what you’ve got and try to reduce the expectations you are putting on yourself a little. This purposeful lowering of the bar can be incredibly helpful, and it is the kind of thing that is really going to make a huge difference all in all, so that is something that you should focus on for sure.
It’s okay not to be operating at your usual capacity, and remember that some days are about getting through rather than thriving. If you can remember that, you are much more likely to care for yourself properly, and it can be amazing what a difference this actually makes on the whole.

Use Media Intentionally
It can feel overwhelming to always be consuming the media, and this is one of the first things you are going to want to look at when you feel as though you might be a little too stressed or burned out. Switching to a more intentional use of media, and being a little stricter and clearer about what you are taking in, is a really powerful way to take back control of your wellbeing and your health, while still staying as informed as you want to be. So that is something simple that you should certainly make sure you are thinking of doing.
If you can do that, you should find that you feel a lot better. And it can be as simple as limiting your social media time, only looking at the news once a week to get an overview, or whatever else you might think you need to do. It’s up to you – and that’s the beauty of it.
Reconnect With Your Body
When you are constantly looking at content and media from around the world, it can be all too easy to get in your own head and not really be in the body quite so much. This is not really a great way to be, and it’s something that you are going to find really important to bear in mind. It could be that you need to think about what you are going to do to try and reconnect with your body as best as you can, which is something that will help you to feel much more grounded and in touch with what is going on in the world. All in all, this is the kind of thing that you are going to need to think about.
There are a lot of ways of doing this. It might be that you take up a new sport or get some more exercise. Perhaps you want to take up a morning yoga routine, or maybe you could just do some practised and purposeful deep breathing. However you do it, this is bound to be helpful and you should find that you are going to really notice a huge difference in no time. Consistency matters more than intensity here, so don’t worry about building up a crazy routine – just do lots of small, kind things for yourself.
Unwind Frequently
Take lots of time out of your schedule to unwind and to really get back to basics, in terms of your relaxation. This is something that many of us fail to do, but it’s one of the best ways to ensure that you are going to be feeling so much better in yourself, and it’s really amazing how much it can actually help. It might be that you take a long bath and read a book, or that you go online to play some solitaire. Whatever it is, just finding something to do to unwind is a really valuable thing, and you are going to find that you feel so much better as a result.
Make sure you find time every day for a little relaxing. If you can do that, you will notice the difference right away, and you are going to be in a position where you are much more likely to really enjoy what you are doing. It will also empower you to pay attention to world events without sacrificing your own wellbeing.
Give Yourself Permission To Feel
You may well be having lots of different feelings around what is going on in the world, and the aim is not to shut it down, but to feel it fully and entirely, so that you are much more likely to be able to really make a huge difference to your health. It’s feeling things fully that really makes the difference, and you are going to find that this is a really useful kind of practice to have. So make sure you are doing that and the results are going to be so much better for your health overall. It’s amazing what a difference it can make.
