Are Democrats and the Masses Calmly Accepting This Fate Like Lambs Led to Slaughter?

Right in front of our eyes, you’re seeing the destruction of the United States of America, and the beginning of a dictatorship run by a career criminal and his enablers, drawn from the worst among us.

Nobody seems to be taking effective action against this while many calmly accepting this fate like lambs led to the slaughter. One federal judge says that the Trump administration is ignoring his orders. More may find the same because Vice President JD Vance, a Yale educated lawyer, declared, wrongly, the other day that the courts have no authority to stop or challenge Trump’s actions.

For almost 37 years I’ve been reporting on Donald, including writing in 1988 and 1992 on the prospect of his becoming president.  He has called me the journalist he hates most in the world and nicknaming me “the weird dude” because I don’t accept what he says at face value but check the often deeply hidden facts instead.

Since 2015 I’ve warned that Trump wants to be dictator, but so many people just can’t see it no matter the evidence.

We’re seeing law-enforcement officers threatened with losing their jobs for doing their duty, our national security institutions torn apart by a man who says he trusts Vladimir Putin more than loyal Americans, funds for the poorest cut off, the takeover of one of our greatest cultural centers where only performances that please the rising dictator will be allowed, and a White House “faith office” whose leader says that to oppose Donald Trump is to go against God.

This is a white supremacist administration. It removes all references to diversity, equity and inclusion by removing any hint of it from federal papers, policies, and websites. 

At the FBI Academy a mural listing the agency’s core values including “diversity,” “fairness,” “compassion” and “integrity was painted.

Pete Hegseth, Trump’s telegenic but unqualified Secretary of Defense, just restored the name Fort Bragg, honoring a Confederate general, a traitor.

Where are the pastors, rabbis, and imams who should be moral forces for liberty and regard for children, the disabled, the elderly, and others who cannot fight back? There are some, but not nearly enough.

Republicans across the nation are proving themselves quislings, defending not our Constitution but the whims of an ignorant and power mad man, rejecting the rule of law to their everlasting shame.

More than a million people died for this country.  We dishonor their sacrifice by our political paralysis.

Our commander-in-chief insists that no disabled war veteran, like my late father, ever be in his presence because he doesn’t want to look at these brave men and women. He denounces as losers. He pardoned violent felons who tried to kill his first vice president, Mike Pence, and beat police officers so severely that some committed suicide and others suffered injuries that force them to retire. The violent felons he set free now talk openly to retribution, of violent vengeance.

Not much remains to put total control in the hands of one man and his kleptocratic cronies. Trump, who once claimed he was so rich he didn’t need to accept any campaign contributions is now beholden to Elon Musk, who at a quarter of a billion dollars is his largest donor. 

Musk is forcing out federal executives who had his companies under investigation for contract violations and other serious misconduct, acts that define institutionalizing corruption.

Trump sent Musk, the world’s richest man, to ensure that many of our world’s poorest people suffer before they die. 

Despite a lack of any legal authority, Musk shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development, which saves millions of people from starvation, operates wells providing water in arid zones, and distributes antiviral medications that corral especially pernicious viruses. This will come back to hurt us. Our humanitarian aid prevented the spread of some much more deadly viruses than Covid 19. But the withdrawal of medications means these pathogens will break out of their corrals, allowing them to hopscotch around the planet on jetliners putting all our lives at risk. You or your loved ones are now at a very much heightened risk of dying for no good reason.

From such cruelty to the world’s poor also spring harms to American taxpayers. Humanitarian aid is not charity, it is an American national security and an American jobs program.  American farmers will lose billions of dollars in sales of corn, rice, and soybeans. Pharma will lay off the people who make medications that we give to the poorest of the poor overseas. And China and others will take advantage of the void to promote their interests at the expense of ours. 

Trump promises to fire “woke” generals and admirals. We can expect that he will promote— out of order—officers who pledge loyalty to him, the classic sign of the imposition of a dictatorship. News reports, not yet confirmed, indicate that at least some federal employees have been told that they must pledge personal loyalty to Trump or be fired.

Trump openly declares his desire to use American troops against the American people and, mark my words, he will unless he is stopped. 

In his first term Donald spoke of suspending our Constitution. He could even arrest people on charges bogus or legitimate and hold them incommunicado because our Constitution makes habeas corpus, to be brought before a magistrate, a mere “privilege” that can be suspended. 

Maybe this must go on a little longer before people grasp the horror of what’s taking place. And perhaps they will wait until it’s too late.

Apparently, as a nation, we’re willing to give up our freedom, revealing ourselves not as the brave people we imagine but the fearful who cower before a charismatic, ignorant and power mad con artist with no soul, no character, no regard for truth or the American way.
